Doctor's appointment rundown for 11.19.10 visit

Woo, look at me! Third post in a month :)

Friday I went to the Hospital of Special Surgery to see Dr. Yuan as well as all the people who wish to see me for this thing or that making me feel quite special when I go in for a check up.

Okay, I've never been in a mosh pit but I used to get down pretty hard at shows. I would get in line 3 hours before show time, a lot of times in a freezing cold and in a hoodie or two, just to be in the front. Then I'd be in the front and get crushed into a barricade and defend my honor haha. A lot the time I did this with knees swollen as big as softballs and chronic fatigue.

Not many people would put themselves through this time and time again with a proper working body, let alone people with joint issues. But I didn't give a damn!

On disability

"I'm disabled!"

In April, after years of defiance I gave in and applied for disability benefits through Social Security. I've been without health insurance for about 7 years. After losing jobs before any opportunity to apply for their insurance coupled by no hope on simultaneously being employed AND being approved for insurance (pre-existing condition and all) I thought, 'I'm broke, my hands are fucked up enough and --most importantly-- I'd really like my family to get off my back about this' so I gave it a go.

I started this blog over a month ago with the intention to write here. often. Turns out when I sit here and try to transfer words from brain to page, I  just stare at the screen and yell "FUUUUUUUUUUUU- WHY CAN'T I WRITE ABOUT LUPUS?!". My friend suggested I write about it in here as I try to figure this out, to get juices flowing and hopefully, by the end of this stream of consciousness type entry I’ll have some kind of answer.

Welcome to I've got lupus, so what? who cares, a weblog of my unique experience with the auto-immunological pestilence that is systemic lupus erythematosus or LuLu as I affectionately call it.

LuLu and I met in September 2001 when I was plagued with knees so swollen I was unable to chase down the singer of one of the favorite bands at the time for a chat before he retreated to his tour bus. There was hair loss and inexplicable face marks I later found out LuLu was responsible for and ever since my life has been a kind of hell that I've warmed up to in recent years. So much that like Louie above, I want to dip my balls in it.

Now we're celebrating our 9th anniversary, isn't that precious?

I started this blog to document the often random things I do make say and think while living with LuLu so stick around, its going to be a bumpy sometimes sensi but oft times hilarious ride.
